BACKGROUND

The initiative to establish SEAWUN (= South East Asia Water Utilities Network) originated from Directors of Water Utilities in the region of South East Asia, who realized that all Water Utilities in this region can enjoy large benefits from sharing experiences on common problems and issues and develop a regional network of communication and joint activities. Supported by Ministry of Public Works and Transport, Lao PDR and Asian Development Bank, the SEAWUN Leadership Forum was held in Luang Prabang, Lao PDR on 28-29 October 2008. The Forum attracted the participation of 100 people including leaders and managers of water and wastewater utilities, government officials, international organizations, managers, experts and specialists in water sector in South East Asia and Asia – Pacific region plus water associations and entrepreneurs.   Read More...

The Conference on Sanitation Options in the Asia Pacific was jointly organized for the first time in Vietnam by the International Water Association (IWA) and Southeast Asian Water Utilities Network (SEAWUN) from 18-20 November. The Conference was endorsed by the Ministry of Construction, the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, sponsored by Vitens – Evides and Vewin and supported by ADB, eawag, JICA, USAID.   Read More...

In Feb/March 2008 contact was made with the South East Asian Water Utilities Network (SEAWUN) which is based in Hanoi in Vietnam regarding the DWAF International Twinning project as South East Asia had been identified as an area of strategic interest by SA utilities. SEAWUN subsequently invited the project leadership to meet with SEAWUN representatives in Vietnam to discuss the project and potential involvement by their member utilities. A meeting with SEAWUN was accordingly arranged for and held on 16 April 2008.   Read More...
